Alexander Romanovich gave a speech at the conference of the German-Russian Forum 08 июня 2016 On 7 June the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation hosted a conference of the German-Russian Forum on "The German-Russian Municipal Partnership – from Karlsruhe 2015 to Krasnodar 2017." The conference became an interim phase of the forum of the sister cities which was held last time in the German city of Karlsruhe in June 2015. T The German side was represented by Rudiger von Fritsch, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the FGR to the RF; Martin Hoffmann, Executive Director of the German-Russian Forum; Mathias Platzek, a resigned Prime-Minister of Brandenburg and some other prominent public figures who participated in the discussion. In his speech, Alexander Romanovich, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, paid attention to the White Book to be released in Germany in which, for the first time in many years, Russia might be described as a rival of Germany on the international stage. The parliamentarian emphasized that in the year the 75th anniversary of the start of the Second World War such news from a NATO member country gives rise to a special concern of the Russian authorities and the civil society of the country. Alexander Romanovich told the participants about a trilateral meeting of the deputies of the German Bundestag, the Russian State Duma and the American Congress that took place in early May. The dialogue revealed a blinkered mentality of some American congressmen which prevents from hearing and understanding one another. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma considers that for this very reason it is necessary to develop a municipal partnership more actively and hold meetings between citizens of the two countries, use such a tool a people’s diplomacy as a concurrent factor for success of official diplomacy. In conclusion, Alexander Romanovich particularly noted the role of the German-Russian forum which did not stop its beneficial activity in all times burdened by external factors. He thinks that to a large extent, the dialogue continued thanks to the forum.
