Anatoly Aksakov: real import substitution starts in Russia thanks to the US economic sanctions 05 августа 2014 Anatoly Aksakov, a State Duma deputy, a member of the State Duma faction of Party A JUST RUSSIA and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Financial Market Committee made comments on the current situation resulting from the new economic sanctions against Russia imposed by the European Union and the USA. On August 01, the European Union and the USA made a decision to restrict access to EU capital markets for several Russian banks due to the situation in Ukraine. According to Anatoly Aksakov’s opinion, such measures are counterproductive as well as the previous sanctions. The Russian Government repeatedly declared illegality of such actions and made an emphasis on Russia’s call for finding a peaceful solution to the problem of the inner Ukrainian conflict. "The attitude of the people who I interacted with to what our president is doing is distinguished by understanding," the parliamentarian stressed. "I did not hear any criticism of the president’s actions on the part of bankers. Even the Russian bankers working abroad perceive the Russian president’s actions with understanding and say that he saves face of Russia." The deputy is sure that the anti-Russian economic sanctions will not prevent development of the regional businesses. "No need to exaggerate the significance of the sanctions. At present I am in the region and communicate with the representatives of the local businesses. In Chuvashia, for example, they say that they have got additional orders thanks to the sanctions, and an actual import substitution has started. Every cloud has a silver lining; I mean that in the situation with the imposed sanctions we can also find a silver lining. Many enterprises got additional orders from the defense industry and the energy sectors of economy. It means that at last we will get down to diversification and develop our own manufacturing thanks to the sanctions," stressed the deputy.
