On 10 December, Nikolai Levichev and Rene Nunez Telles, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua signed the Agreement on the inter-parliamentary cooperation between the RF State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua. "This is both an important international legal act and a significant milestone in our relations," Nikolai Levichev stressed. The agreement was signed before the start of the Special Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua. The session coincided with introduction of the state holiday "Friendship Day between Russia and Nicaragua" on 12 December. In his speech at the session, Nikolai Levichev mentioned that common understanding of the ways of development of humanity lies at the foundation of friendship between the two countries. "We are against the attempts made some countries or groups of countries to dictate their own rules to the whole world. Russia and Nicaragua are unanimous about the right of each nation for its own way of development. It is not by chance that first Russia and then Nicaragua acknowledged the right of the peoples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia for their own statehood", Nikolai Levichev emphasized. According to the Vice-Chairman of the State Duma, Russia appreciates the support of Nicaragua in the UN, in particular, the one it provided for the resolutions of a prime significance for Russia, including the ones relating to the international information security, the measures of transparency, strengthening of trust in space, counteract to the glorification of Nazism and some other issues.. In his speech, Nikolai Levichev also emphasized that Nicaragua is not only the state with a dynamic development but also one of the leading Latin American partners of Russia. "Cooperation with this country during the last years has acquired a strategic character for our country," the politician said. According to him, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Nicaragua implement joint projects in the spheres of space and transport, in a pharmaceutical sphere and agriculture. Cooperation between the two countries is efficient in counteraction to illegal drug turnout, in development of the national system of the warning and liquidation of emergency situations, in the spheres of education, culture, humanitarian exchange and staff training. "In Russia, we look with optimism to the future of our relations with Nicaragua," Nikolai Levichev said. During his visit to Nicaragua, Vice-Chairman of the State Duma had a meeting with President of the Republic of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega. Both sides discussed relations between the two countries and noted their constructive development. They also emphasized the significance of development of the political cooperation between Russia and Nicaragua. They also stressed that the signed agreement on cooperation between the parliaments of both countries would help enhance their relations.
