Nikolai Levichev: ‘the chorus of European politicians’ conducted from Washington is gradually becoming smaller and smaller

24 июля 2015

Nikolai Levichev, Vice-Chairman of the State Duma commented on the visit of the delegation of French parliamentarians to Crimea:

Having seen with their own eyes the situation in Crimea, the French parliamentarians will help both their colleagues and ordinary Europeans to break down stereotypes and prejudice. The French delegation members say that during their visit to the peninsula, they saw ‘people who were happy to be back to Russia’, but they did not see anything of the kind the western media and rabid American ‘hawks’ had promised they would – Russian invaders, oppression and violation of human rights.

"The chorus of European politicians" conducted from Washington is gradually becoming smaller and smaller. There are deputies and senators who are acting in the interests of their voters. They see that anti-Russia sanctions hit their own fellow citizens. While the Western Leaders demonstrate their solidarity in response to the actions of Russia, the French farmers arrange "manure" protests. Problems with sales of products (including the lack of access to the Russian market) compel French farmers to dump manure and block roads. Moreover, the number of the dissatisfied is steadily growing.

The tendency of independent parliamentarian diplomacy is not going to change: politicians from some other countries have already started to express their readiness to follow the example of their French colleagues. It means that it will be more and more difficult for the European governments to explain their citizens why they have to suffer from unreasonable, aggressive and standoff policy imposed from overseas.
