Sergei Mironov: the decision to choose 22 June to announce extension of the sanctions is definitely directed against us 23 июня 2015 Sergei Mironov, Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA and the Leader of the SD party faction commented on extension of the EU sanctions against Russia: The European Union has officially announced extension of the sanctions against Russia for another half a year, i.e. till 31 January 2016. I’d rather not say that the date of announcement, i.e. 22 June was chosen quite by chance. This date has rooted in the hearts of all Russian citizens once and forever as the remembrance day of a terrible war. Moreover, in 2015 we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War as a result of which not only our country but the whole Europe and the whole world were rescued from Fascism. Don’t they in the European Union know about it? Of course, they do! Therefore, it is nothing but a coincidence. The decision to choose 22 June for announcement of extension of the sanctions is definitely directed against us. It is (if you wish) another war against a really independent Russia which has strengthened during the recent years. In 1941, Hitler’s Germany started military operations against us. In 2015, on the very same day, they whom our fathers and grandfathers saved from the fascist "plague" are continuing an economic war. If historical memory of the European leaders and of those who make such decisions fails them, they should read a history textbook once again or at least, find some brief information about that war in the Internet. Then it would be clear for them that no matter what sanctions are imposed, we will not be frightened. I want them to recollect as well the fate of those who invaded our country bearing arms in their hands on 22 June 1941.
