Alexander Romanovich: the PACE resolution once again demonstrates quarrelsomeness of some delegations 29 июня 2015 Alexander Romanovich, deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Foreign Affairs, a deputy of the A JUST RUSSIA faction, commented on the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) which recognizes Russia as an aggressor state and the Crimea as occupied territory: Such a resolution was expected. Shortly before, Ukraine made a similar statement which accuses Russia of aggression and calls Crimea an occupied territory. It was already then that the majority of the Euro-parliamentarians supported the above-mentioned declarations. As for the PACE resolution, once again it demonstrates, I’d say, quarrelsomeness of some delegations. As we know, the tone for the anti-Russian policy is set by the Baltic countries, the northern states and Poland who constantly use a policy of pinpricks regarding Russia, although without any particular final objective. You know, the declaration of Russia as an "aggressor" is nothing but a declaration which (I am sure) many PACE member-countries feel ashamed of now. How are we to react to such decisions? We should stay calm and reserved, right in the way we reacted to the other attacks on us. We should reasonably counter it with our point of view which must be voiced everywhere, in all international formats. The Speaker of the Federation Council and the State Duma deputies have already given their estimation of the situation. The positions of the MFA and our delegation at PACE will definitely be specified. As for the issue whether the Russian delegation should leave PACE or not, my personal opinion is that we must stand up for our opinion and defend it in all formats, including the Parliamentary Assembly.
