Nikolai Levichev took part in the Armenian genocide commemoration meeting 14 апреля 2015 Nilolai Levichev, Vice-Chairman of the State Duma, Chairman of the Council of the Chamber of deputies of Party A JUST RUSSIA took part in the commemoration meeting entitled "I Remember and I Demand" dedicated to the Centenary of the Armenian genocide in Ottoman Empire. The event was held in the Moscow International House of Music and visited by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation Oleg Yesayan, Head of the Russian and Novo-Nakhichevan diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Ezras Nersesian and Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hermine Naghdalyan. Opening the event, Oleg Yesayan said that as early as in May 2015 Russia was among the first countries that recognized genocide and condemned the mass killing of Armenians. Already nowadays, in 1995, the lower chamber of the Russian parliament adopted a declaration about genocide. Thus, Russia has always been an ally of Armenia when it comes to estimation of the tragic events at the beginning of the XXth century. Nikolai Levichev, in his speech, called genocide the most terrible method of murdering. "The motives of this crime are extremely tragic – the man becomes a victim only upon belonging to some nation, i.e. by the fact of birth," he stressed. According to the politician, the Holokost, the liquidation of the Serbs, massacre in Rwanda and hundreds of local conflicts accompanied by ethnic cleansing became possible because the Armenian genocide had not been unanimously condemned. Deliberate silencing and misrepresentation of the facts is a crime against the future and the way to new violence. "Thanks to the technical progress, genocide has gained new forms. At present, we are talking about the information genocide: when the internet resources and social networks are used for elimination of the ethnic and national identity of nations. That is the way the ISIS militants act in the Middle East: they post online the barbaric videos in which they kill dissentients and destruct the Christian sanctuaries," the State Duma Vice-Chairman said. In conclusion, he stressed that Russia is not seeking revenge, it keeps to a clear international position, and that is why our country expressed its support for the Armenian people during the days of commemoration for the Armenian genocide victims. "We must remember the events of the past to avoid such a tragedy in the future for the sake of the future generations and the future of the whole mankind," Nikolai Levichev emphasized.
