Sergei Mironov: not everyone in Europe is admiring the European Union 13 марта 2015 Sergei Mironov, Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA, the leader of the State Duma faction of the party commented on Iceland’s refuse to join the European Union: Not everyone in Europe is admiring the European Union, and membership in this structure is not synonymous with prosperity and happy life for everyone. Iceland which formally rejected its plans to join the EU has again confirmed this fact. Iceland is certainly a European country although it is located on an outlying island. Ukraine is not on an island but the problem is if we may call it a really European country (especially after the events that took place last year). No one in Europe is actually looking forward to its joining "a single European family" no matter what politicians and propagandists are talking about in this respect! Iceland rejects the EU membership first of all due to some economic reasons. It is disadvantageous for the country. But we were also telling Kiev exactly about economy when a meaningful talk about a strategic alternative for the country was still possible. Any talk with the present Kiev authorities has already become impossible as they are trying to find something tricky in any Russian argument but not a sincere concern about the fate of the fraternal people. They should learn (at least) looking at Reykjavik!
