Sergei Mironov about the establishment of a special body to be responsible for solution of the problems of the national and inter-confessional relations 13 марта 2015 Sergei Mironov, Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA, the leader of the State Duma faction of the party commented on the President’s instruction to the government to establish a special body to be responsible for solution of the problems of the national and inter-confessional relations: The President’s instruction to the government to establish a special body to be responsible for solution of the problems of the national and inter-confessional relations is more than an opportune act. Absence of national policy in multinational Russia is nonsense! I have been talking about the necessity of establishing such a body (should it be a ministry or a federal agency like the Ministry of Nationalities) for several years. It is quite evident that taking into account the abundance of economic and social issues the Ministry of Regional development has to solve, it cannot deal with the relations among nationalities and confessions. It is impossible to solve their problems at the level of an individual city or entity without a clearly-defined and well-thought-out state strategy. I am glad that soon a special body will deal with this issue. This body must have wide-ranging powers and bear huge responsibility. I repeated time after time the phrase Catherine the Great uttered two centuries and a half ago: "Russia preserved as many nations as it welcomed." At present this phrase seems to be very contemporary. Preservation of the nations of Russia in a single family is not only our historical pride but it is our duty. Life of not only individual nations but also of our whole multinational homeland – Russia – depends on whether we honorably serve this duty or not.!
