Alexander Tarnavsky: consideration of the draft law on undesirable organizations in the RF depends on the policy of the West 16 марта 2015 Alexander Tarnavsky, deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Public Associations and Religious Organizations, a deputy of the A JUST RUSSIA party faction voiced his opinion that Draft Law No 662902-6 "On introducing amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation (on undesirable organizations in the RF) may be rapidly finalized and adopted in case the pressure of the sanctions on Russia intensifies. We would like to remind that the State Duma passed the draft law in the first reading on January 20. According to the parliamentarian, further consideration of the document permitting prohibition of the activity of foreign and international structures "posing a threat to national defence or security" may be slowed and even stopped in case of de-escalation of the situation. "From my pint of view, the document (to some extent) has a political character. The higher the tension, the higher the relevance of the draft law," Alexander Tarnavsky stressed. The parliamentarian thinks there is a direct dependence between the time of the draft law consideration and discussion, and the situation in Ukraine, Europe and America. "The draft law may be passed very quickly or its discussion may be continued. In spite of a considerable number of steps forward taken by Russia recently, the sanctions have not been lifted. There are even threats to impose new sanctions regarding some points which means we must put forward some additional arguments," he emphasized. The deputy believes that a certain interim decision will be made regarding this issue, and work at the made remarks, proposals and amendments (few in number) to the draft law will be continued. "Some politicians in the West say that the sanctions are inefficient and call for bargaining with Russia. In case the confrontation continues, I think this law will be one of the instruments showing that Russia has something to give a response with," he warned.
