Sergei Mironov: Poroshenko is mastering the European practice of double standards "on the way to the EU" 01 декабря 2014 At the end of last week, Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine once again declared that Ukraine will not be federative, the country may be only a unitary state. Sergei Muronov, the Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA, the leader of the State Duma party faction made comments on this Poroshenko’s declaration. "As if it were Unitarianism that saved the country from its actual dissolution. As if the departure of Crimea in compliance with a unanimous nationwide decision of the peninsula population is not a real fact. As if formation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics is not the reality disproving any prospects for unitary Ukraine," the parliamentarian declared. According to Sergei Mironov, the fact that Poroshenko "does not get along with reality" is far from being a secret. "But I think this is not any peculiarity of his character; in the given case, this is not a sign of his political foresight," he stressed. "Poroshenko is eager to bring his country to Europe, the European Union. But as the recent events show, the so-called "double standards" are in great favor there: the events that are actually the same are estimated in a different way depending on the up-to-the minute interests." The AJR Chairman noted that by all European standards Ukraine with its variety of original regions, nations, languages and history of formation must be a federative state like Germany, Belgium or Switzerland. But in the long view, taking into account the potential of the state, such Ukraine (with its independent and powerful regions) might become a serious challenger to its European neighbors. On the other side, Sergei Mironov thinks that strong regions are a serious constraint for the Kiev authorities with their frequently unbounded and groundless ambitions. "So, there is nothing surprising that contrary to the vital interests of the people of Ukraine, Brussels and Kiev ‘have been singing in unison’ about its Unitarianism. The double standards are at work!" finalized the politician.
