Sergei Mironov in the Crimea: "We can’t be indifferent and just keep watching over what is happening to our brothers in Ukraine" 27 февраля 2014 Sergei Mironov, Chairman of political party A JUST RUSSIA and the leader of the party’s Duma faction visited Consulate General of Russia in the Crimea, the naval base of the RF Black Sea Fleet and met with the public elected Mayor of Sevastopol. On February 27 Sergei Mironov headed for Ukraine to survey the situation in Ukraine. Right after his arrival, Mr. Mironov met with Vyacheslav Svetlichny, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the Crimea. Today the parliamentarian has already managed to visit the naval base of the RF Black Sea Fleet and have a talk with Alexey Chaly, the elected Mayor of Sevastopol. During his visit to the Sevastopol naval base, Mr. Mironov remarked that it was fully operational and had a talk with Vice Admiral Alexander Vitko, Commander-in-Chief of the Black-Sea Fleet of Russia; he also had a meeting with some Russian military men and their families. "This is our Russian Fleet, so it is quite natural that its officers are our citizens, and therefore, Russia has all the grounds and opportunities for their protection. Bur here we are referring not only to the Black-Sea naval base and Sevastopol. I am strongly convinced that if required, we must grant protection to all people who may need it, and those who might feel some threat to their lives and security," said Mr. Mironov. Before setting off, Mr. Mironov announced his intention to have a meeting with the new public elected Mayor of Sevastopol. He emphasized that the right to solve the issues of autonomy at a referendum belongs to the Crimean residents, and nobody has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of the republic. "But everyone must be aware of the fact that the Russians never leave their friends at war, and everything seems to be getting right to the war there," said Mr. Mironov. During their meeting, Alexey Chaly and Sergei Mironov discussed the current situation and exchanged views on the future prospects. Mr. Mironov expressed his concern about accession to power of the nationalists, people advocating the fascist ideology, those who will force the Russians not to speak their mother tongue. "I am saying this as a Russian man, as a politician of the Russian Federation. We can’t be indifferent watching what is going on with our brothers, with our Russian people in Ukraine," said Mr. Mironov. The Chairman of A JUST RUSSIA laid flowers to the eternal flame at the Memorial to the Heroic Defence of Sevastopol 1941-1942 and to the Nakhimov memorial erected in the square of the same name. Then Mr. Mironov visited the Vladimir Cathedral which is more widely known as the Admirals’ Burial Vault where he paid the tribute to the memory of the Russian admirals and naval officers buried there. Mr. Mironov also had contacts with the people from the community defense volunteer squads created in the Crimea by the participants of the acts of protests against destruction of the constitutional system for protection against provocations and violence. Talking with the representatives of Cossacks and people’s guards, Sergei Mironov informed them about his intention to initiate adoption of the law for accelerated obtaining of the Russian citizenship by the citizens of Ukraine. "Now I have online Deputy Mizulina who has prepared (by my order) a bill about an accelerated procedure of obtaining citizenship by the citizens of Ukraine," said Mr. Mironov. The politician confirmed that the above-mentioned initiative will concern not only the Russians but every citizen of the country. He also informed that he was going to Simferopol (the epicenter of the events) where clashes between the pro-Russian and the pro-Ukrainian forces are taking place. "At present, the defense of Sevastopol starts in Simferopol. I am going there," said the politician. Sergei Mironov declared that during his trip he wanted to manifest readiness of Russia to provide the required help and support to the Russian people who have found themselves in a complicated situation in Ukraine as well as to everyone who needs protection.
