Sergei Mironov: Russia does have really reliable partners 08 июля 2015 Sergei Mironov, Chairman of Party A JUST RUSSIA, the leader of the SD party faction commented on the BRICS summit hosted by the city of Ufa, and the forthcoming meeting of the Council of the Heads of the SCO Member States: It has been difficult to currently perceive without irony the word "partners" in relation to the western countries. I have to say with regret that at least the longstanding history of our relations with Europe gave us hope for understanding by the Europeans of the motives of decisions made by our country and the reasons for its actions. But it turned out to be different from what we thought. At the same time someone’s expectations that demonstrative "punishment" of Russia will bring our country to its knees were not satisfied. Although it is indisputable that relations with Europe and the west world (as a whole) are rather important for us, the world is large enough, it is not only the West: when one door shuts, another opens. Russia does have really reliable partners who turn out to understand our country much better than the Europeans in spite of their geographical remoteness and cultural differences, and who respect Russia’s legitimate interests. The summit of the leaders of the largest developing countries such as China, India, Brazil, SAR (of the BRICS group) in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, is a vivid confirmation of all this. The member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization that differ by their economic weight feel real respect for their national interests within the framework of SCO. The summits of SCO and BRICS in the city of Ufa show how confident is Russia on the world arena and in the world of politics which is done not only in Washington and Brussels. No sanctions can prevent our partnership with those whose attitude to Russia is really distinguished by respect and sympathy. I am sure that the meetings in Ufa will give a new impulse to our cooperation within the framework of SCO and BRICS, and it is sure to be useful for all participants of these international associations.
